About Us

Firstly, a warm welcome to Dunraven Stud.

Since purchasing Llanmihangel Farm in 2004, I have wanted to develop a stud that could rival any other stud across the UK. Every stud has different facilities to suit various bodies, but my main aim was to encompass all aspects of bloodstock production from conception to the racecourse.

Today, I am proud to stand two top class National Hunt stallions in the form of Dr Massini and Brian Boru. Dr Massini has already proven himself to be one of the UK’s most prolific sires and I am sure that will continue for many years to come, whilst I am especially proud that Dunraven Stud is home to St Leger winning Brian Boru, the first ever “Classic” winner to stand on Welsh soil. He is already producing “black type” performers from his first few crops and there is no doubting that he has the potential to match his racing prowess in the breeding shed.

However, it isn’t just the stallions that make up a successful stud and the whole package has to match up. No stone has been left unturned in developing the necessary state of the art facilities, taking ideas from my visits to studs in England and Ireland, plus expanding on our own thoughts and ideas.

Indeed, it goes far beyond the production of foals. We have invested heavily to make sure that youngstock have the very best environment to grow and develop either to be produced for sale as “stores” or taken to the racecourse to hopefully fulfill their potential.

It is a source of great pride to see all the produce on the ground as foals, but when you take that foal through it’s journey all the way through to the racecourse, there is an enormous amount of personal satisfaction and I am sure that more than one or two will prove to be “Champions” over the coming years.

The 200+ acres benefits from free draining sandy soil and a mild climate, ideal for growing and developing young stock. Our facilities comprise over 50 stables with paddocks protected by ancient hedgerows.

The yard is fully staffed 24 hours a day by a highly experienced team of stud hands. This is complimented by the highest levels of veterinary care constantly on call.

Dunraven Stud itself is perfectly situated in the heartland of Wales. We are perfectly situated on the M4 corridor, just 5 minutes off J37. That makes us around 40 minutes from the Severn Bridge, less than 2 hours from Birmingham and approximately 90 minutes from the ferry terminal at Pembroke or even the home of National Hunt racing, Cheltenham. I would doubt that any other stud in the UK is as conveniently situated and accessible by the motorway network.

I hope you enjoy looking around the website and it is our intention to bring everybody constant updates on the running and developments of Dunraven Stud.

May I wish you all the best with your breeding and racing plans and I look forward to welcoming many of you to Wales in the near future.

Good luck
